Are Facial Cleansing Brushes A Staple In Skin Care Or Just Another Fad?!
Are Facial Cleansing Brushes A Staple In Skin Care Or Just Another Fad?!
I’ve written a lot about how to choose the right products for your skin, how to use them, and what to avoid, but, what about how to clean and dry your face? Now, more than ever, the market is flooded with facial cleansing devices. There are manual brushes, sonic brushes, silicone bristles, some have options for speed, dept, and even vibrational levels. With so much to choose from, you may forget that you don’t even need them.
Facial cleansing brushes can feel luxurious and fun to add to your routine, but they aren’t needed to attain a healthy glow. In many cases, they can cause damage to your skin’s barrier. Facial brushes that move in circular patterns over-exfoliate your skin, stripping it of the good natural oils your skin produces to protect itself, leaving it irritated and sensitized. In addition to that, the constant moist setting that these brushes are in creates an ideal environment for bacteria, mold, and germs to grow.
If owning a facial cleansing device still sounds like a good idea to you, opt for one made of silicone. Look for those that have short silicone bristles that are antimicrobial and antibacterial. Clean the device often, spray it with alcohol, and keep it in a place where it can air dry completely.
Truth be told, you have two perfectly good washing machines attached to the ends of your arms – your hands & best of all, they’re FREE! You don’t need a fancy tool. Using a good cleanser and taking the time to cleanse your face will do the job. Remember to clean your face two times a day, no exceptions, not even a drunken night out…
As I’ve mentioned before, you should leave your face damp after cleansing so that the ingredients in your products can be even more effective. However, you don’t want your face soaking wet. Dab a clean washcloth on your face to get rid of excess water. I recommend using 100% cotton or bamboo washcloths. The most important thing is to remember to only use it ONCE. Damp towels are a breeding ground for bacteria a mold to grow, by using them again you’re going to be potentially spreading harmful bacteria onto your cleansed skin. Cotton rounds/squares can be used as an easy swap if washcloths aren’t your thing.
There are many tools out there marketed to us as the answers to our prayers, but remember, sometimes, if it seems too good to be true, it very well might be. FOMO will have you spending all your money on subpar products and experiences (not only in skin care but in overall life situations). Focus on good quality products over a quantity of trendy, fad products. My verdict? Our hands and a clean washcloth washed away the competition!
