Ice Facials: It’s A Thing & You Want To Know About It!

You may have been seeing ads for “Ice Rollers,” “Ice Globes,” “Ice Balls,” and other cool cold devices pop up on your feed lately. Using cold tools in skin routines seems to be the new “cool” thing to try. However, this isn’t a new trend at all. It’s been said that Catherine the Great used ice in her morning routine to give her skin a glow. Some Victoria’s Secret models would rub ice on their face before their makeup application & even Kate Moss says that one of her favorite beauty tips is filling a sink with ice water and submerging her face in it for a few seconds. If It’s good enough for one of the worlds’ most famous models EVER, it’s good enough for me!!!

What are the benefits of Icing your face or having an Ice Facial?

  • Reduces Puffiness (Bye-Bye Under-Eye Bags)

  • Reduces inflammation on the skin (Acne, Rashes, Bug Bites)

  • Reduces Excess Oil

  • Increases Blood Circulation

  • Helps Restrict Pores (Great To Do Before Makeup Application)

  • Helps Reduces Appearances Of Fine Lines

When ice is applied on the skin it causes a rush of warm blood to come to the surface, giving it that radiant rosy cheek look we all get when we’re outside in the winter months. What happens to our skin when it gets cold? It constricts, and that’s exactly what our pores do when we’re icing our face; they constrict, giving them the appearance of smaller-looking pores!

Ways you can implement ice into your beauty routine:
First, I’d like to say that if you’re on any topical prescription medication, consult your doctor before adding this to your daily practice. If you got the go-ahead, let’s go ahead!!

Cleanse your face thoroughly before icing it. Use a clean washcloth, gauze, or some sort of soft, non-abrasive material to wrap a handful of ice cubes. I wouldn’t suggest placing the ice directly on your face because that could lead to an ice-burn if left on one spot for too long. Better safe than sorry, always! Start to move the cloth all over your face, neck, and décolleté. Use very soft and gentle movements – you shouldn’t be tugging at the skin. If you have a problem area, leave the cold compress on that spot for a few seconds until you start to feel a little numbness. Great to do on acne and bug bites!

Icing doesn’t have to be only frozen water. For those pesky undereye bags, try freezing some green tea, or any caffeinated tea, and (gently) rubbing the ice under your eyes, or just leaving it there for a few seconds. Some people freeze and use Aloe Vera to ice their faces. Both Aloe Vera and Green Tea are anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial and are filled with antioxidants that your skin could benefit from.

Before you go out and buy the “Ice Rollers,” “Ice Globes,” and “Ice Balls,” try the tips above or freeze some tablespoons and message those on your face. If this seems like something you can stick to, then graduate to buying those fancy tools.

What are your thoughts? Have you tried icing your face before? Do you think you’re going to start now? Let me know in the comments below!!
